Workshop:

A place where you can simply sit down for a moment before heading to the next big Art Basel event.

Crochet calms the nervous system. It can be a form of selfregulation, something many crocheters have told me when I asked them why they crochet. It is also one of my favourite tools when working with children and teenagers in schools. Even the cool kids not always, but sometimes become completely focused for a while, sitting quietly and immersed in the process.

I see resilience in manual work. This workshop is about exploring one of the many ways we can slow down and care for ourselves during busy and demanding days.

Come for five minutes or stay longer. Bring your own project or join a collaborative piece. Everyone is welcome bring the kids bring the aunties.

The voiceover was created for my graduation. I had to prepare a statement for them as they needed to understand my Brazilian and Swiss background in order to evaluate my work. I am currently working on a more intimate viewpoint and
practice of crochet in Brazil.

"I see something you don't see," is a pop cultural ethnographic research  that analyzes the  contemporary aesthetic of the cultural heritage of crochet in
Rio de Janeiro.

An observation through a medium in this case crochet helps us understand the identity of the everyday city life. We connect heritage with  traditional and historical  past aesthetics. The focus is on how crochet, as an everyday object, shapes cultural heritage that is  influenced by trends and movements in the current moment. In 2022 Rio de Janeiro  has been impact significanty by politics and the Corona pandemic. This impact’s traces leave a need for day laborers. In this analysis, I can demonstrate how diverse the handcraft is, and I can't find a specific type of personality that engages in crochet. What This website provides a selection of ethnographic footage, films, photographs, and text from the period between February 2022 to April 2023. The material is carefully curated and chosen. In my archive, you can see the broad spectrum of aesthetics that shape Rio de Janeiro.

Go and explore the Archive and see what pop culture can tell you about social phenomena.
